Family names back in favour with new parents

Parents are keen to shun celebrity styled names for their baby, preferring instead to name a child after a member of the family.

According to a survey of more than 900 parents by Computershare Voucher Services, 27 per cent of parents named their child after a family member.

A further 23 chose a name they liked, 20 per cent used a baby book, 6 per cent created a name themselves, 4 per cent named after a famous person and another 4 per cent named their baby after a location.

Of the more unusual names for a child, one was named after a music track and a pair of teachers went to great lengths to avoid choosing the name of any child they had taught during their career.
