Riots and violence spreads from London to central Bristol

Trouble predictably flared in Bristol last night, with several groups of protesters creating disorder in central areas.

Main roads in the city were closed with people advised to home whilst police officers brought the situation under control.

The areas of Broadmead, Cabot Circus, Stokes Croft and St Pauls were involved in the incidents.

A number of arrests have been made after shops and cars were damaged and around ten fires started between midnight and 5.30am.

Chief Superintendent Jon Stratford sent out a clear warning to people intent on replicating the London violence in the city saying : “There has been a series of sporadic incidents throughout the night with a small number of people intent on causing violence and criminal damage to property.

“This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated in our city.”
