New health warning over sleep deprivation
Lack of sleep may put health at risk, warns one of the UK’s leading sleep experts.
Sleep researcher, Neil Stanley, at the University of East Anglia, is calling on people to take the problem of sleep deprivation in its consequences more seriously.
Poor sleep is responsible for lower levels of immunity, poor performance, mood changes and even weight gain. It is also thought it may increase the risk of heart disease, depression and diabetes in long-term cases.
Sleep deprivation is part and parcel of dealing with young babies, in the early days babies may not sleep that well at night, and even the ones that do will need regular feeds every four hours.
If you are a new mum in need of a good nights sleep try a night off packing the new baby off to the grandparents. If you then want to try out a natural answer to help you sleep safe in the knowledge that grandma will be doing the nightly routines, there are herbal remedies available.
Expert herbalist Dr Serene Foster said: “A good night’s sleep is vital for helping to maintain good physical and emotional health and is just as important as other lifestyle factors such as eating a healthy diet and taking exercise.
“The body needs sleep to help it rest and recuperate, but unfortunately the pressures of modern day living mean that for many people a night of sound, un-interrupted sleep is something they can only dream about.”
“Valerian has been traditionally taken for thousands of years as a safe and natural way to help people relax and get some quality sleep when times are tough. Today it continues to be just as effective at helping people cope with anxiety and sleeplessness.”
Valerian is a herbal remedy for anxiety and sleeplessness that offers a natural solution to getting a good night’s sleep. It helps relax the body without any of the side effects associated with sleeping tablets that can leave you feeling drowsy the next day.
