Brandon Trust wins award for helping young people into conservation work
A Nailsea scheme providing opportunities for people with learning difficulties to work in conservation has just won an award at the Best and Simplyhealth Community Awards.
Bespoke gives young people aged 16 and over the chance to take part in local conservation projects such as planting and gardening.
The scheme, run by the Brandon Trust since 2008, aims to help the young people with employment opportunities.
Each week it has supported 32 people with learning disabilities or autism working on the projects.
Bespoke Corporate Fundraiser Clair Thompson says, “The scheme gives these young adults a purpose and helps them to realise that they are important to society. Doing this work is not only beneficial in helping them improve their confidence and learn new skills.”
A cash sum of £1,000 towards the scheme, along with a special presentation lunch in London formed the prize as winner of Best Green Community.
