Men’s boozing, fast food and drug taking affects half of infertility cases

A boozy lifestyle coupled with smoking, bad diet and recreational drugs, are leaving men’s sperm something to be desired.

According to research by the Fertility Show, 47 per cent of women are suffering from an inability to conceive, with women undergoing invasive IVF due to their partner’s problem sperm.

Women are having to administer a daily self-injection of drugs to stimulate their ovaries and shoulder the ‘blame’ when according to statistics from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, 43.3 per cent of men are to blame for the lack of baby.

Deputy chief executive of patient support group Infertility Network UK, Susan Seenan says: “In some cases, men can improve the quality of their sperm by making changes to their lifestyle and possibly avoid the need for couples to undergo fertility treatment. Where a couple does still need fertility treatment, then improving sperm quality can also help improve the chances of success so men should definitely come along and find out what they can do to boost their fertility”.
