Helpline for working parents facing discrimination in the workplace
New mothers who are facing discrimination heading back to work after maternity leave can get help from a charity helpline.
The Working Families helpline is open to help pregnant women, new mums and flexible workers who fear they are being discriminated against and need support.
The helpline will offer advice and support on employment rights for working parents if they face the following issues:
Dismissal/redundancy when pregnant or on maternity leave
Unfavourable treatment during pregnancy such as a cut in wages
Refusal of employment rights such as annual leave during maternity leave
Less favourable treatment on return to work from maternity leave such as demotion
Changes imposed by an employer in work hours/days which are incompatible with a parent’s existing or available child care
Unreasonable refusal of parents’ flexible working requests
Refusal of statutory rights such as Parental Leave, Paternity Leave and Time Off for Dependants
Dismissal and less favourable treatment because of caring responsibilities at home
Parents should call the confidential Freephone helpline: 0800 013 0313 or visit: www.workingfamilies.org.uk
