Chopsy Baby is reviewing… Cookie My Playful Pup from FurReal Friends
Cookie My Playful Pup, must surely be one of the most sought after toys this Christmas. The armful of interactive toy dog is sturdy, makes realistic noises and will actually play with you. It doesn’t walk like robo-dog or flip somersaults like a circus animal, but it will lovingly respond to your touch and voice with all the sounds and realism you would expect from a real dog.
Perhaps ‘real’ might be taking it a tad far, but the golden retriever has a fairly realistic bark and puppy noises.
You can interact with her by waking her up with a quick pat of the head. She will bark, blink and wag her tail like one of Jim Henson’s finest.
Her white plush fur isn’t suitable for very young children as it can be sucked out. Its age guide at four years and over is exactly right. A younger child being too heavy handed with it could possibly break some of its mechanisms. They are more likely to be able to appreciate at this age, that it is not one that can be smashed around.
Cookie will also respond with joy when you rub her cheek, call her name or follow your hand when you hold her rubber bone.
She comes with a pink collar that has been specially designed not to be a choking hazard to young children. The collar comes in two strips which are connected with Velcro. They cannot be pulled tightly around a neck without coming apart.
Chopsy Baby’s Jen says: “Cookie is fantastic. Almost the sort of toy you need to give a very old person whose cat has died. It interacts, is quite therapeutic to play with and you don’t have to look after it. It is great on batteries. Good quality ones won’t need to be replaced annoyingly often.
“I took Cookie home to test out with my own children. Both boy and girl were absolutely smitten with her, especially the boy.
“During the afternoon, I went to investigate a very odd sound coming from my four year old son’s bedroom. I found both child and dog in bed sound asleep and snoring together.”
Whilst the safe, girly orientated marketing campaign is enough to get the pink-haters going, the toy itself is just as suitable for boys. Once you discard the box and rename the toy something slightly more masculine, there are four-year-old boys out there who will love Cookie just as much as girls.
The price tag for the toy is fairly hefty so is it worth the money? Yes. The dog is a gem of a toy beloved by both girls and boys. It is realistic, interacts, won’t catch rabies and is the perfect pal to cuddle up with on the sofa in the evenings.
