Chopsy Baby is reviewing… Colman’s Instant Gravy Paste

These days there is pretty much an instant or pop-up everything. Although this hasn’t quite extended to the Christmas dinner, Colmans are adding their own touch of instant to the gravy.

Colman’s selected a group of British butchers to taste test the three flavours of their new Instant Gravy Paste which actually contains real meat juices.

Eight out of ten butchers on the “Colman’s Butchers Board” preferred it to the leading competitor.

Colman’s Instant Gravy Paste is available in three flavours – beef, chicken and onion.

The paste replaces the usual gravy granules.

Each tube contains approximately five servings and is free from preservatives and artificial flavour enhancers.

Bristol mum of three Hazel Smith.

Hazel says: “I have never bought any one particular brand of gravy. I just settle for whatever is the most cost effective. Usually this is the supermarket own brand of gravy granules.

“I don’t use gravy often and the pot of granules does tend to stay in the cupboard from one Christmas to the next.

“Colman’s Instant Gravy Paste is an interesting idea which I was happy to test out.

“I like my gravy quite thick

“The paste does make tasty gravy. I did struggle a little at first to get used to what the right consistency for me would be. When adding it to boiling water it still needs to be stirred well for a while, but you won’t get any of those lumps that you can get with dry granules.

“There are five portions of gravy in each tube and once it is opened you have two months to use it by. It has to be stored in the fridge.

“To be honest, whether it makes my life any easier is debatable. If you tend to use gravy a handful of times within two months, yes it’s great. If you use it regularly, it could prove more expensive. But, having said this, all three flavours of the gravy do taste amazing. The onion flavour is probably best if you don’t know in advance what meat you will be having. For the winter and Christmas season they are probably better to have in the cupboard than a festering tub of granules as the turnaround will be quicker.

Best of all…
The flavours are amazing.
