What is it?
The Chocolate Cake Mix is an instant cake mix, creating a moist chocolate sponge with a chocolate frosting and chocolate curls. Everything needed is in the box except an egg, cola, semi skimmed milk and the butter for the frosting.

Amongst the cake mixes available to buy in shops, this is one of the better ones. It’s super simple to use and great for creating with young children. In a slight twist, you add cola to the ingredients for the purpose of keeping the sponge moist. It actually seems to work, as the centre of the cake remained soft and spongy without drying out. You couldn’t taste the cola unless you very deliberately tried to taste it and then it did not detract from the overall taste experience.

A baking tray is even included in the pack. At first glance it looks disappointingly small, but once the cake has been baked, it is exactly the right size. It is not overly rich in taste, but very chocolaty, and small portion sizes are perfect.

Best for ages:
18 months upwards with supervision.

How much time can you get out of it?
Will fill a good half hour on a rainy weekend.
