Cash for walking to school
Schools in the South West have been awarded money to get kids walking to school.
276 primary schools across the region have received Government awards of up to £1000 to hit the pavement and leave the car at home.
To get the grand, schools have to have schemes in place that have created a sufficient drop in the number of car journeys.
An average of five return car trips per day is enough to secure the funding.
Schools running smaller schemes will receive £500.
Grants are to go towards organisation and funding of the schemes and to provide equipment such as high-visibility clothing.
