Traditional teddy names replaced by the descriptive
Children are scrapping tradition and going with the descriptive, according to a survey of teddy bear names.
Galt toys surveyed more than 1,000 parents finding teddy names such as George or Edward are being replaced by Doggy or Teddy.
A 47 per cent of children were inspired by TV programmes such as Shaun the Sheep or Peppa Pig for names.
Managing Director of Galt Toys, John McDonnell said: “Naming a toy Ted, Ducky or Piggy comes at an early stage in a child’s development when they are saying what they see rather than being more elaborate or imaginative”.
The top five teddy names for parents and their children were: Edward/Teddy,Rupert/Ted, Alice/Doggy, George/Mousey, Wendy/Bob.
