Travelling Light theatre company have a sparking Christmas ahead

Bristol based theatre company, Travelling Light are an absolute joy, creating arguably the best shows for children and their families.

Luckily for the rest of the country, the company have just announced three national tours for 2012/13.

When Travelling Light put on Cinderella: A Fairytale, at the Tobacco Factory Theatre for Christmas 2012, they set the bar so high, it is unlikely another family show as good as this one can ever play in the city again.

Those lucky Londoners will now have the chance to see it for themselves this Christmas, when the show opens at the new St James theatre in Westminster.

Another Christmas classic of theirs – Boing! a hip-hop dance theatre show for young children aged three years and above, will also be playing at Sadler’s Wells, Straford Circus and Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth.

As well as dusting off their recent classics, the company are proud to announce a brand new stage adaptation of Ben Rice’s acclaimed debut novel Pobby and Dingan.

Pobby and Dingan are Kellyanne Williamson’s best friends and only she can see them. Her big brother, Ashmol, can’t see them and doesn’t believe they exist anywhere but in Kellyanne’s head. Only when Pobby and Dingan disappear and Kellyanne becomes heartsick over their loss does Ashmol realize that not only must he believe in Pobby and Dingan, he must convince the rest of the oddball community to believe in them, too.

The play has been directed by the wonderful ‘Somebody get me out of the kitchen’ wicked stepmother from Cinderella, Craig Edwards and has been designed by Katie Sykes.

Travelling Light’s Artistic Producer, Jude Merrill said: “I’m thrilled that we’re finally bringing our version of Pobby and Dingan to the stage after 10 years in the planning. And having two shows running in London over Christmas is a first for us.”.

THE MYSTERIOUS VANISHMENT OF POBBY AND DINGAN performs locally at the egg, Bath Theatre Royal on 12-13 October; at The Tobacco Factory Theatre on 19-20 November; at Prince’s theatre Clevedon on 22 November: and at Sidcot Arts Centre on 24 November.
