Peppa Pig popular with parents

Though some parents moan it encourages their children to misbehave, others feel that Peppa Pig is the best – or perhaps most tolerable – children’s programme.

Sales website HushHush.com, commissioned a survey involving more than 1,000 parents with children aged five or under, to discover which show was the  UK parents’ favourite.

A list featuring dozens of TV shows were presented to participants who were asked to select the ones they liked.

The findings were:
1. Peppa Pig – 64 per cent
2. Charlie and Lola – 61 per cent
3. Humf – 57 per cent
4. Spongebob Squarepants – 55 per cent
5. Something Special – 51 per cent
6. Little Einsteins – 45 per cent
7. Waybuloo – 41 per cent
8. In the Night Garden – 36 per cent
9. Dora the Explorer – 33 per cent
10. Lazy Town – 30 per cent

The least favourite children’s TV shows were Barney the Dinosaur, Rastamouse and Teletubbies.

Founder of HushHush.com, Mark Pearson, is a fan of shows that promote kindness, even banning Thomas the Tank Engine because some of the characters are mean.

He said: “It’s good to see shows such as Charlie and Lola and Humf in the top ten as I think they’re very sweet and promote kindness, but Peppa Pig surprised me, as anybody that’s watched it will know Peppa can be a right little madam! My little ones recently went through a phase of wanting to watch Thomas the Tank Engine, something my partner and I put a stop to when we realised just how mean some of the characters are to each other. Whilst watching TV with your little ones can be a nice way to snuggle up and have some downtime, it’s important it doesn’t become the only way you and your kids can interact.”
