It’s Fingerspellathon month to help raise money and awareness for children with hearing loss
It’s in its sixth year and back this October. The UK’s biggest Fingerspellathon has launched, aiming to raise money and support children with hearing loss.
The challenge by the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) will see more than 13,000 children learn to fingerspell words and phrases using the British Sign Language (BSL) alphabet.
There are more than 1.6 million children in the UK featuring some level of hearing loss.
Deaf children can miss out on everyday activities and playtime with their hearing friends. The Fingerspellathon helps to raise awareness with children about what it is like to be deaf.
Schools, guide and scout groups can register now and download a resources pack which includes a range of fun activities, word games and information to help them organise their event at www.ndcs.org.uk/fingerspell
