The Whimsy Wood Series Book 1 & 2 Review
It’s not often a set of simple storybooks featuring gentle imaginative characters find their way onto the Chopsy desk.
These two stories featuring characters from Whimsy Wood, hark back to a more innocent and gentler childhood, before 24 hour children’s TV and games consoles. Think of the best bits from Enid Blyton’s fantastical stories for very young children.
The books have been created by Bristol University graduate and small animal vet Sarah Hill with the unique illustrations by Sarah Mauchline.
In the first book we meet Posie Pixie, who is trying to solve the crisis of a home for the winter. In book two, she needs the bed to go with it.
Through the stories, we meet the wonderful creatures who inhabit the forest. They are twisted into the innocent, almost wonderfully old fashioned tales that are quite unlike other contemporary children’s authors.
The books, which will eventually number 35, are aimed at children aged 5-8 years of age. In line with the aim of encouraging children to interact with nature, 10 per cent of the the profits will be donated to UK organisation The Wildlife Trust.
