Arnos Vale Cemetery Forest Day

 

Spending a day at a cemetery with your children may sound like a morbid pastime, but in the heart of Bristol is a very special place called Arnos Vale.

The beautiful garden cemetery was rescued from disrepair by volunteer groups and tireless campaigns for funding.

What we have now is still an on going restoration project, but also a wonderful place for the local community to get involved in activities as well as a great day out.

The cemetery has several listed buildings, acres of woodland, ornate graves and beautiful gardens.

Plenty of children’s day time events are held here, including story walks and forestry schools.

We were lucky to go on a special forest school day just for local children and their families.

During the day, children went on a bug hunt with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable leader, built dens, created natural bird feeders and art with hammers, leaves and fabrics.
