Cheese lovers are launching a campaign to preserve the reputation of an old favourite.
The Dutch Edam Wedge campaigning is planning to ‘Save our Wedge’ following the launch of a block of cheese without the red wax coating.
Kate O’Meara of the Cheese Society commented: “We fully support Dutch Edam and their campaign to ‘Save Our Wedge’. Many people across the UK are great advocates of traditional Dutch Edam; it’s a nostalgic product that is loved by thousands and is deeply embedded in their childhood memories.
“The wedge is not only loved as a classic, eye-catching cheese board staple, but continues to be a much-loved snack and cooking ingredient. To see this classic replaced by a product that does not reflect its true character would be a travesty.”
