Fun ideas for the summer holidays
The Kids Fun Ideas Show at Manchester Central next month offers families thousands of ideas for things to do and places to go in the long summer break.
With live shows and hands-on workshop areas for kids, this isn’t just a trade show but one aiming for families to go home with creative ideas, and bags of ideas on filling up the holidays.
For families unable to get to the show, here are ten tips on how to have a summer of fun.
1. Make the most of the summer forecast. Get the tent out and set up camp in the garden!
2. For budding DJs – set up a studio and record your own radio show
3. Calling all wannabe Harry Potters! Celebrate the launch of the new movie with an afternoon of magic, where everyone has to learn a new trick (check out your local library for some ‘how to’ books)
4. Get creative in the kitchen and learn how to bake something new, like chocolate fridge cake or fairy cakes. Then relax and enjoy!
5. Get out and about! There are loads of fantastic galleries, museums and exhibitions – most of which are free for kids. Perfect for rainy days
6. Grab a bucket and spade and head to the seaside. From Brighton to Blackpool, the UK has lots of fab beaches with plenty of things to do to keep the whole family amused for hours
7. Rediscover playground favourites and teach them to your kids… Remember What’s The Time Mr Wolf?, British Bulldog 123, Hopscotch, Farmer Wants A Wife and Piggy
8. Thanks for the memories! Get the kids to photograph all their favourite memories and at the end of the summer turn the best pictures into a coffee table book using one of the many online photo sites
9. Fancy dress fun… using everyday household items like cereal boxes and tin foil get the kids to make their own costumes and then put on a play
10. Britain’s got talent! Get your kids to choose their favourite song then come up with a dance routine worthy of appearing on TV. Tell them there’ll be an award to the most inventive
