GPs should use caution with antibiotics

According to new medical research, young children given antibiotics to treat acute ear infections are 20 per cent more likely to suffer from further recurrent ear infections.

The research published today on the British Medical Journal’s website (bmj.com) is the first to assess the long term effects of antibiotics in children with acute otits media (ear infection) and supports calls for the cautious prescribing of them.
