Bristol Plays Music Awarded £1.1M of Arts Council Funding
The future of music for young people in the city has been further secured for another two years, due to funding from Arts Council England.
Bristol Plays Music has been awarded £1.1m to continue working with schools and communities to push inclusion and diversity, especially improving lives for children in challenging situations.
Area Director for the Arts Council England Phil Gibby said:“We are really proud to support Bristol Plays Music to continue their excellent work, creating opportunities for teaching, learning and performance in a way that everyone can access.
“Their aim to make sure that every young person has access to music education activities and a platform for musical expression chimes with our mission of great art and culture for everyone. We look forward to working with them as they continue to help children and young people discover and develop their talents and support the city’s rich and diverse musical talent.”
Around 8500 children and young people in Bristol learn to play an instrument each week in schools and even music centres through Bristol Plays Music.
The news follows the £600,000 award to Bristol from the National Foundation for Youth Music, over the next four years to create the first National Centre for Inclusive Excellence (NCIE) in the country to support musicians with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Today we’re delighted to announce that Bristol Music Trust will launch a national centre at Colston Hall to help disabled musicians into industry as part of the Hall’s transformation.
