British Heart Foundation BHF Charity Shop Broadmead Bristol Opens:

A leading cardiovascular researcher has officially opened the ginormous new British Heart Foundation (BHF) Home & Fashion store in Broadmead, Bristol.

Professor Stuart Mundell joined the charity’s Chief Executive Simon Gillespie alongside store staff, volunteers and shoppers at the grand opening of the new 7000sq foot charity shop.

Professor Mundell said: “The British Heart Foundation’s shops raise vital funds for research such as mine, which aims to find new treatments to prevent clots forming which can cause a heart attack or stroke. Without the money raised from the shops, I would not be able to continue my work. I wish the store every success and would encourage the local community to support it raise vital funds for heart research that has the promise to save more lives in Bristol, and across the UK.”

Based opposite Debenhams at 50/58 Horsefair, the charity shop will be instrumental in aiming to raise funds to support heart research, including the Heart Institute at the University of Bristol.

As well as selling goods, the store is aiming to be a supportive community hub where people can get heart health advice and CPR training.

BHF staff are urging people in the city to think of them when having a clear out to help the shop remain stocked.

Area Manager at the BHF, Jackie Williams said: “The opening of the new Bristol store has gone extremely well and we are hoping to continue this success with support from the local community.”

“We still urgently need more donations so please do bear us in mind in the future if you are having a spring clean. We would love to receive any unwanted clothing or homeware. We even offer a free collection service so making large household donations couldn’t be easier, just get in touch with the shop if you would like to arrange one. If you would rather give the gift of time, we are always in need of volunteers who can spare a couple of hours a week, so please do get in touch if you are interested.”
