Home visits from nurses help kids with asthma
Nurses who make home visits to children suffering with asthma may help prevent half from having to receive more serious treatment for their condition.
Research published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood show there are several benefits of a nurse finding potential ways of modifying each child’s condition by changing their own home environment.
During trials, home visits were made by by two paediatric respiratory nurses looking at allergen exposure, particularly house dust mite and pets, smoking, adherence to medication and psychosocial issues.
The nurses found potentially modifiable factors in 79% of the children’s cases.
The authors of the research believe that home visits make an important contribution to identifying things that can be changed to prevent more serious treatment.
