Bristol Theatres Getting Back to Business
After a long pandemic inflicted absence, Bristol theatres have been successfully re-opening their doors since the end of the summer.
Bristol is home to many theatres, from the large commercial offerings of Bristol Hippodrome, to the smaller but popular fringe venues such as Alma Tavern and Theatre and of course, The Wardrobe Theatre in Old Market.
It’s not been an easy time for the industry, which has struggled to survive the Covid pandemic. One benefit that has emerged has seen the development of streaming shows and new work broadcast online. This is something that is ground breaking for people who are usually unable to attend theatre, often due to accessibility reasons.
Tobacco Factory Theatres is still selling deliberately socially distanced performances for some of its shows for those who have concerns about social distancing or are Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV).
Hot on the heels of Beauty and the Beast at the Bristol Hippodrome comes the announcement that The Lion King will be returning next year.
Hopefully this news will renew the confidence of audiences moving forward and see the industry return to its former strength – along with utilising the technologies it has embraced to include marginalised communities.
