St Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Primary School Receives Termination warning Notice
A primary school in St Jude’s has received a Termination Warning Notice after Ofsted rated it ‘inadequate’.
St Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Primary School, received the letter after their Ofsted inspection in June.
Inspectors said that ‘Pupils do not get the education they deserve,’ and that ‘pupils do not have a good grounding for the next stages of their education.’
Ofsted said the recently appointed headteacher is providing ‘clarity and direction’ and is working with ‘determination’ to bring about ‘positive change’ but that it was ‘too soon’ to see the impact.
Pupils were found not to learn enough in many subjects they studied, with ‘significant gaps’ in learning. The curriculum was found to be ‘narrow’ and ‘not ambitious’ with governors not holding leaders accountable for the quality of the education provided.
Whilst the overall inspection found the overall effectiveness of areas either ‘inadequate’ or ‘requires’ improvement, inspectors did find positive areas in the school.
They praised ‘effective’ safeguarding, with staff ‘quick’ to spot signs of ‘worry or anxiety’ in pupils. Staff recruitment was ‘thorough’ with safety, and pupils understood how to stay safe both online and in the local community.
Inspectors also found that pupils enjoyed coming to school and are beginning to develop a sense of ‘community and pride’.
The school must now send the Department for Education’s Regional Director for the South West information on the action being taken to make educational improvements as well as the time it will take. They must also include school plans to secure long-term sustainable improvement and a written summary of leadership, staffing, and governance arrangements.
