Tried and Tested: Jessops CEWE Photo Books

In the days of digital cameras and camera phones, we have become a snap happy nation. New parents photograph their baby’s every milestone from sleeping, smiling to burping with an obsession akin to the Paparazzi.

But though we take so many more photographs knowing we can upload them instantly, how many of us will actually bother to print them out or even look at them?

Chopsy Baby has found the Ideal gift for Christmas, a Christening, Wedding, Birthday or Anniversary. Even if you have none of these coming up, the Jessops CEWE Photo Books are a delightful way of putting together special moments in a tangible hand-held book.

Chopsy Baby editor Jen Smith tested out the Jessops CEWE Photo Book experience, from downloading the software and sorting photographs, right through to the ordering process.

Jen says: “The digital revolution has been brilliant for families. No longer do we have to wait a week to see our treasured snaps, if the technology doesn’t fail us, we can see them instantly.

The downside to this is I hardly ever have time to delve through the dusty areas of my computer to reminisce over the short space of time my child has gone from baby to feisty child. This is why I really loved testing out the Jessops CEWE Photo Books. They are beautifully presented professionally printed and bound books that you can design, fill and layout.

“To create your CEWE Photo Book, firstly you must download a free program from the Jessops website. Once this program has been installed, you simply choose which type of Photo Book you would like to create. There are a range of sizes, each with their own differing shape, photo paper and feel.

“Before you start your project, it makes sense to create a folder on your desktop with the images you would like to use, otherwise it will take longer as you navigate your computer looking for the correct images to upload.

“The programme is reasonably user-friendly and easy to navigate but basic computer skills and knowledge will of course be needed. If you don’t feel you are quite ready for this, working on a family photo project with another member of the family who does have computer skills will make this a more fun experience. Computer savvy children will love to work on this with a parent, especially with such a fabulous result to be shown for their efforts at the end of it.

“Families can have great fun choosing which images to use, along with where to put them and even choosing the background to compliment it. You can be as simple with the layout or as creative as you like. Rotate images to angles, add shadows, use photographs as background images and don’t forget the all important task of choosing your cover star! Don’t forget to save your work regularly.

“Once you have completed your project and are ready to go to print, just hit the basket button within the programme. Here it will tell you exactly how much your Photo Book is going to cost, upload it to Jessops  and allow you to safely enter payment and delivery details.

“I had no problems at all with the ordering process and despite a postal strike, I was amazed to receive my book with an impressive 24 hour turnaround.

“As well as great cyber-service, the Photo Book quality is excellent and makes for a really lovely gift, even if it just for yourself.

“Being a single mum without a large family, I decided to treat myself to a special Mummy and Me book featuring photographs of my son and I spending precious time together. It’s something that even he enjoys to flip through with me. I would never have thought to create it myself and enjoyed the time I spent going through all of my old photographs to create it.”
