New green scheme by Bristol City Council
Bristol City Council will be helping new residents to go green with a new scheme.
People moving into the city and residents moving home will receive a pack offering advice on how to recycle.
A voucher for a free home compost bin worth £12 will also be included.
The council is aiming to give new residents a welcome to the city and to make the most of their services.
Giving out advice about recycling is part of their bid to increase the 40 per cent of household waste recycled in the city up to 50 per cent by 2010.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Councillor Gary Hopkins said: “New residents can also find out how to play their part in improving our environment. Thanks to the people of Bristol, we already have the highest recycling rates of any major city in the UK and we want to make it easy for new people moving to the city to maximise their recycling too and help us reach our ambitious target of 50% recycling next year. This new welcome pack should answer a lot of the questions that people often have when they first move to a new home.”
The new guides will be given out from December 2009, with the compost bin voucher valid until 30 June 2010.
