Bristol group celebrate winning grant

Young people in Bristol with Asperger’s Syndrome are celebrating a grant allowing their support group to meet weekly.

The charity Time2Share, received a £10,000 cash boost from Bristol City Council as part of it Youth Opportunity Funds, which members of the group had to apply for themselves.

The group can now meet weekly instead of fortnightly, providing a vital social outlet for the youngsters, who find it harder to cope in new situations or large noisy groups.

Group member Jacob, 19, said: “Going to the group on a Friday night is really important because group members feel happy because it is a safe environment. We can share interests, do new things and get out of the house.”

Meeting every Friday night, different activities are held each week as well as camping trips and planned nights out.

The Time2Share Bristol Area Co-ordinator, Jenny Lyus said: “The group is so important to the young people who attend. For many of them it is their main social activity of the week.

“This extra funding enables us to provide this service every week and is a lifeline for these young people, their parents and siblings.”

Time2Share have some spaces for new members aged between 15 and 19. For more information contact Jenny or Kieran on 0117 941 5868.
