Stadium to go ahead if approved by Government
Plans for a multi-million pound stadium development will be going ahead if approved by the Secretary of State.
The new Bristol City Football Club stadium has been approved by the city council after having revised parts of its initial plans.
The new plans saw the removal of the disputed Southland housing, new pedestrian access and more information about the sustainability of the project.
The stadium will be on the outskirts of Bristol, falling on Green Belt land which is why final approval will be needed from the government Office before the final go-ahead.
If completed according to plans, the stadium will seat 30,000 and include further shops, restaurants and flats.
A wildlife area will be preserved and flood risk measures will have to be taken.
Chair of the Development Control Committee (South and East), Councillor Lesley Alexander said: “The committee felt that the revised plans make substantial improvements to the overall development, in particular much better pedestrian access arrangements and travel plans.
“We felt that our concerns raised in November had been listened to, and we were pleased to give final approval. This is a very significant development – not just for the football club and its supporters, but to the whole of the south Bristol area bringing new homes and jobs for local people.”
