Step out in support of meningitis charity this summer

People in Bristol and Bath are being invited to take part in a summer walk to help raise vital funds to fight meningitis.

The popular Summer Stroll event has a brand new family friendly route this year, taking in some of the best sights of Bristol.

Taking place on June 19, the 12-mile walk starts at the Jolly Sailor pub in Saltford, ending up at the Ashton Gate stadium.

Designed to be completed in one go, or broken up in to smaller, manageable walks, the organisers Meningitis UK are hoping to attract more than 200 participants to help them fund their Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign.

Meningitis UK’s Supporter Relations Officer, Laura Bullock said “Last year’s Stroll was a massive success and we hope everyone will get behind us on Saturday, June 19, for another great day.

“This year’s walk follows a more pleasant route through some beautiful countryside before taking in some of Bristol’s best-loved places.

“It’s split nicely into two six-mile sections so walkers can either do half or the full 12-miles – depending on how energetic they’re feeling.

“As a national charity based in Bristol, the Summer Stroll is one of the most enjoyable events in our fundraising calendar and we would love for local people to get behind us to help smash the £100,000 landmark.

“Every penny raised is so important in enabling us to continue our vital work and will take us one step closer to finding a vaccine and saving lives.”

To secure their place, adults need to pay an entry fee of £10, or £5 for children, and in return walkers will receive breakfast, lunch, a goody bag and a ticket for an after party, which has been organised at the Tobacco Factory for August 12, where there will be an auction, raffle and entertainment.
