Families to get more choice on GP surgeries

The restrictive geographical boundaries of GP surgeries are set to be lifted according to new plans by Health Secretary Andy Burnham.

Currently, many patients have no choice but to register with their local GP, who is likely to have restrictions on the distance from the surgery they are willing to accept people from.

For some patients this is not convenient for their place and hours of work.

Some families prefer to stick with their long-known family doctor, even when moving house.

Now a consultation is taking place looking at ways of giving people more choice about their GP services and giving people the freedom to choose the GP they would like.
