Parents continue to discount holiday during term time
Parents are continuing to take their children out of school to benefit from out of season holiday discounts.
Dubbed as ‘Travel Truants’ by schools and local authorities, more than four out of ten parents now take their child out of school during term time for day trips and holidays.
A 63 per cent of parents questioned on their reasons for doing so said it was because they could not afford the higher prices during official holiday dates.
It seems parents don’t believe it is as serious as education authorities do with 22 per cent of the not believing the time away impacts on their children’s education.
Commercial Director, General Insurance at Tesco Bank, Julie Hopes said: “The increase in the cost of holidays during Easter and the summer months clearly puts extra pressure on parents looking for a good value family break. Traditionally, ‘kids go free’ offers have helped to ease the strain but there is a clear perception that these deals are no longer as widely available.
