Bristol exclusion zones for doorstep traders

Bristol residents have been successful in helping to establish more No Cold Calling Zones in the city.

Four zones have been set up in Bristol at resident request to stop uninvited salespeople from knocking on their door trading.

Traders are warned of the exclusion zone through door stickers and road signs.

Put into place by Safer Bristol, Trading Standards and Avon and Somerset Constabulary, the four zones are in Ingmire Road, Eastgate Chewton Close, Fishponds Halstock Avenue, Fishponds and Stoneleigh Crescent,Knowle.

The scheme will not stop registered charity collectors, politicians, utility service staff or those with genuine appointments with a resident.

Service director for Safer Bristol,  Rick Palmer said: “People who knock on the door and offer services or goods have been rogue traders who suggest work when it isn’t necessary and provide unsatisfactory work or shoddy goods. They have even used the opportunity for a distraction burglary.”
