Cycling safety event on Bristol Downs today
Cyclists are being invited to come along to a cycle safely event being held in Bristol today.
The cycle road show is being held by Safer Bristol and Avon and Somerset Police on the Downs from 2pm until 6.30pm at the water tower and cafe.
The event is aiming to encourage cyclists to think about road safety and bike security.
Local community safety officer from Safer Bristol, Cheryl Cole warns: “Bike theft is very common but there is a lot people can do to keep their bikes safe. We are running the road show to reach cycling commuters and students to advise them on security and to help them to get their bikes tagged and registered so if they are stolen they can be traced back to the owner.”
There will freebies available to cyclists including water bottles and high visibility arm and leg bands.
Advisers will also be able to give tips on safe cycle routes and courses for both children and adults.
The police will be addressing concerns by local residents from the Stoke Bishop Neighbourhood Forum who are concerned about cyclists riding on the pavement and without lights.
