West country tourist attraction Oakham Treasures continues to win awards
For West Country farmer Keith Sherrell, a lifelong passion for collecting memorabilia from past times has just earned him a new award since opening his collection to the public just two years ago.
Oakham Treasures, in Portbury near Bristol, displays of thousands of nostalgia inducing objects and one of the UK’s largest collections of vintage farm machinery.
Now it has been rewarded with a silver medal at enjoyEngland’s National Awards for Excellence ceremony in the Best Small Visitor Attraction category.
No stranger to notching up prizes, fifth generation farmer Keith recently scooped a gold award in the regional South West Excellence Awards.
The attraction is the result of forty years of collecting on Oakham Farm which also includes displays of classic toys, confectionery and gadgets.
Described by enjoyEngland’s ‘mystery shopper’ as an ‘attraction that goes the extra mile’, it applauded the friendly staff, nice atmosphere and was pleased that kids were ‘well catered for’.
Keith and his family are delighted to have won the prestigious award saying: “Despite being a relatively new attraction, it’s taken years of hard work to create what you can see today, so it’s wonderful to be recognised at a national level. I hope that the award will mean more people hear about Oakham Treasures and come to see what we have here – we think it really is something quite special, and we are thrilled that our opinions have been confirmed by enjoyEngland’s judging panel.”
The family friendly venue also includes good access, free parking, a café serving refreshments and a large farm shop selling fresh meats, speciality cheeses and organic produce.
