95 arrests in Bristol drink-drive crackdown
A summer campaign to cut down on the number of people in Bristol drink driving has seen the arrest of 95 people.
Operation Tonic, launched on June 1, has seen more than 23,600 motorists stopped in the past three weeks.
Aiming to save lives on the roads, police officers in Avon and Somerset have been carrying out high-visibility stops to raise awareness of drink-driving and breathalysing 1,513 people in total.
Last year in the Avon and Somerset region, 35 people were seriously injured and 7 people killed in drink-drive related collisions.
Chief Inspector Polly King said: “We will not tolerate drink or drug driving in Avon and Somerset and will be cracking down on those that do so. Our message is clear – if you do drink or drug-drive this summer, you can expect to be caught.”
