Driving pedestrians mad – Buy the Highway Code
The Driving Standards Agency has revealed that one million copies of the official Highway Code was sold during 2007.
This means there are 33 million other road users including drivers, cyclists and pedesrians without this book. These are most likely to be the drivers who seem to be unaware that stopping at zebra crossings with waiting pedesrians is a requirement, and that cycling on pavements and through red lights is not optional.
A national media campaign promoting the Official Highway Code to all road users will be running from January.
DSA Chief Executive, Rosemary Thew said: “It is essential that all motorists refresh their knowledge of the rules and signs of the roads time and time again. The volume of sales is encouraging. But we still need to do more to reduce the number of casualties on our roads. We all have a responsibility to observe the Highway Code and drive appropriately and every road user needs to take road safety seriously. ”
