Couples row through pregnancy about baby names
One third of parents-to-be fall out in a big way when it comes to choosing a name for their baby.
During the entire nine months of pregnancy, 15 per cent of couples row about name choices every single day.
A 21 per cent of parents fell out with their partners if they didn’t like a name they had fallen in love with when they were little.
And, 17 per cent of couples who had fallen out over the baby’s name had one parent who sneakily went and registered an entirely different name.
Out of 3,000 parents surveyed by the Bounty Parenting Club, whilst the average couple consider 12 names before selecting the favourite, it is usually mum that makes the ultimate choice.
Bounty’s research finds that four in ten dads don’t even get a look in on the Christian name.
“The name game is a debate which often lasts the whole nine months of the pregnancy and causes the most upsets as couples fail to agree on the best name for their new born,” says Bounty spokesperson Faye Mingo.
“It’s understandably one of the hardest decisions mum and dad will ever have to make – largely because we do judge a person by their name before we’ve even got to know them.”
Factors parents took into consideration when choosing the name included what their child could be called in the playground, how the name sounds against their surname and what nickname it could turn into.
