Bristol residents are being urged by the City Council to only buy fireworks from shops that hold a licence.
Shopkeepers are also being reminded that it is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18 and Trading Standards will be carrying out test purchases.
Trading Standards Manager for Bristol City Council, Jonathan Martin said: “You can ask at the shop to see their license certificate to legally sell fireworks. Never buy them from vans or door to door salesmen they will be sold illegally and may be very dangerous.”
He is urging people to report illegal sellers to Trading Standards on 08454 04 05 06 or to ring crime stoppers.
