Bristol’s highly skilled and qualified residents keeps city top for quality of life
Bristol’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised again by Forum for the
Future.
The city has retained a top position in Britain’s most sustainable cities index coming in fourth place.
Bristol has now been placed in the top five cities for four years in a row.
This year, it comes behind Newcastle, Leicester and Brighton but ahead of fifth place London.
All the top cities were noted by the forum for the ambitious targets they had set and their long-term aims to reduce their impact on the environment.
Despite dropping two places since last year, Bristol managed to achieve a higher overall score and retained top spot for quality of life.
This is due to its apparently low unemployment rate and ‘highly skilled and qualified residents’.
Council Leader Barbara Janke said: “Yet again Bristol is recognised as one of the country’s most sustainable cities, ranked number one for quality of life and praised for our work in areas such as waste reduction. We led from the front on the green agenda and it is good to see other cities coming up – I hope we can learn and share ideas with them.”
