Avon Fire & Rescue Service recruiting part time positions
People are being urged to come along to a series of special open evenings to find out more about becoming a firefigher.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) are looking to increase their part time crews at stations in the greater Bristol area.
Part time, or retained duty system (RDS) firefighter positions offer flexible working hours.
RDS firefighter and full time mum Zoe Escott says: “This is a really great job. Not only do I get to do something I love, but it allows me to work flexibly around my children’s school hours and provide a service to the community I live in. There is a great sense of team work at my station and I love the adrenalin rush I get when responding to an incident, but carrying out fire safety activities is also very rewarding as I am helping to save lives.”
Avon Fire & Rescue Service is looking for RDS firefighters at six of its retained fire stations – Bath, Blagdon, Chew Magna, Clevedon, Nailsea and Yatton.
Anyone interested in the role would need to:
Live or work within five minutes of the local retained fire station;
Be committed, self motivated and have a desire to help the community;
Be available for an agreed number of hours each week, particularly during the day – but these hours can be flexible;
Have a good standard of fitness; and
Be aged 18 or over.
A series of open evenings, where members of the public can find out more about life as a retained firefighter, speak to some of the staff and watch a demonstration, will be taking place throughout February.
