Brand New Specialist Settings Open In Bristol

Two new Send schools open in Brislington and Bishopsworth

A brand new specialist setting will be opening its doors in Bristol for teenagers with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (Send) this autumn.

Avonside School, based in Brislington, calls itself a ‘small professional learning environment’. The setting is for pupils aged 13-19 and will offer vocational training as well as a therapeutic educational approach.

It’s providing much-needed places for autistic pupils as well as those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH).

At full capacity, there will be 72 places.

The schools says: “Each pupil will benefit from a highly trained team skilled in supporting complex needs, including Trauma-Informed Practice and a diverse range of pedagogies.”

Some of the learning pathways being offered are cookery, IT, hair and beauty and construction. There will also be an immersive room for interactive virtual scenarios to develop problem solving. The school will feature sensory spaces and areas for individual learning.

It’s one of two new Send schools being opened by Acorn Education.

Manor Wood School in Bishopsworth is also for children and young people from 5 – 16 years of age who are autistic or have SEMH needs and associated difficulties.

Acorn Education say the schools will be a “nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive, grow, and succeed.”
