Bristol Women’s Shelter Forced To Close Waiting List

The shelter blames a lack of social housing and high private rents for Bristol Homelessness

A ‘lack of social housing’ as well as the ‘extortionate’ cost of private renting in Bristol, is contributing towards homelessness in Bristol.

Spring of Hope is the only female-only shelter in the city. The shelter says it has been ‘full for weeks’. This has resulted in the shelter now saying they have had to make the decision to temporarily close referrals.

There are 8 beds at the shelter with a further 13 women on the waiting list.

Spring of Hope says: “This is the sad reality of homelessness, specifically for women, where Spring of Hope is the only female-only shelter in Bristol.

“The 8 beds at Spring of Hope have been full for weeks, with 13 women on the waiting list, the team have decided to temporarily close referrals until further notice.

The lack of social housing and the extortionate cost of private renting is contributing to homelessness in Bristol, with people getting stuck in temporary accommodation.”
