Bus operators could be forced to have maximum ticket prices set by council
The Government may have its work cut out for themselves with the large public discontent at Bristol bus services, but new proposals are to be put forward to help improve bus travel and tackle anti social behaviour on services.
The plans include banning alcohol on all buses and requiring bus operators to give the public more warning on changes to services.
Good news for Bristol is that proposals also include allowing local authorities to set maximum ticket prices.
The plans are part of the Government’s strategy to increase the popularity of bus travel as a means of tackling congestion and reducing carbon emissions.
Transport Minister Sadiq Khan said: “Two thirds of all public transport journeys are by bus and passengers deserve a better travelling experience. They shouldn’t have to suffer from drunks or sudden changes to services.”
