A child has been rushed to hospital this evening after suffering life-changing injuries following a collision with a motorcycle in Bristol.

The incident occurred on Wade Street in the St Jude’s area of the city, near the Junction of River Street and Wellington Road.

The motorcycle, which carried two people wearing helmets, failed to stop after colliding with the child – aged 6 – at just gone 6pm this evening.

Several roads in the area were closed during the incident, with a section of Wade Street, Houlton Street and Newfoundland Circus closed into this evening while collision investigators continued to examine the scene.

Concerned members of the public gathered at the site of the incident, which had been quickly attended to by police and two ambulances.

A member of the public said: “It’s really chilling. You could see paramedics attending to a person on the floor behind the ambulances. I’m hoping they are OK. It looks very serious.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses, information or dashcam footage.

They said: “The child has gone to hospital and their next of kin are aware and being supported by specialist family liaison officers. Our thoughts are with them.

“It’s believed a rider and pillion passenger, both wearing helmets, were on the motorbike. They did not stop after the collision.

“If you saw what happened or have any dashcam or other footage which could help, please contact us.”

Members of the public can call 101 and give the reference 5223022170.
