Chopsy Baby is reviewing… B-Sensible 2 in 1 Fitted Sheet and Protector

What is it?
The really sensible thing about this brand of fitted sheet and mattress protector, is that it actually fits and covers the bed. Now you would think this would be an obvious objective for any waterproof mattress protector. But, many people looking for waterproof sheets will have found three problems with many of the designs already on the market.
Firstly, those that fit the bed tend to be made of materials such as PVC. Not ideal for young children to be that close to for so many hours, especially if sleeping face down. They also make the body hot and sweaty during the night – not to mention the rustling sounds they make.
Secondly, for some reason, those who have spotted a gap in the market for a more natural material seem to have decided children only have accidents on one part of the bed. These mattress protectors, generally designed to lay on the top of the main sheet may cover one or even two thirds of the bed. But you can guarantee a child having an accident will manage to wee on the one part of the bed not protected. You may think it not possible for a child to wee on their pillow during the night, but for those children who clock around in their sleep, it does happen.
Thirdly, if the waterproof sheet is to go under the top cotton bed sheet and is not fitted, the waterproof sheet rarely stays in place without sliding around.
So finally, we have the B-Sensible Breathable and Waterproof Fitted Sheet. There are similar models on the market which are usually available from more specialist health care and disability aid stores. But, as well as fully covering standard sized adult beds, there are also fully fitted sheets for Moses baskets, pillows, cots and cot beds right through the giant king sized beds.
The sheet works because it is made of a waterproof breathable fabric called Tencel. This incredibly soft fabric is made of eco-friendly fibre found in the wood of the Eucalyptus tree. As well as effectively regulating the temperature and moisture from the body, it also acts as a waterproof barrier to the mattress.
Other benefits the Tencel fibre boasts include prevent skin irritation such as that suffered by eczema and asthma sufferers.
The 2 in 1 function allows the sheet to be used as the normal top bedding sheet. Importantly, on top of its other trumpet blowing claims, the sheet is also machine washable and unusually, can be tumble dried.

Caroline Says: “Jessica is my third child and we have mainly done the potty training stage now. The only thing seems to be the occasional nights. Perhaps a wet bed three times a fortnight. In the past and with my other children, it was a case of getting up in the middle of the night and in a fog of sleep, trying to fight with wet bedding and replace with dry.
“The good thing about this sheet is that you can use it as a top sheet and it also protects the bed. OK so the duvet may still need popping in the washing the next day. But it has cut down the amount of washing considerably.
“I have quite sharp nails, so the only thing I have to watch is that I am not too rough with the sheet and put my nails through it. The sheet is so soft and very flexible, but in the middle of the night it’s easy to be rough when you want to go back to bed quickly.
“The sheet washes in the machine with no problems and dries quickly. Even indoors over the banister.
“I wish I’d had something like this for my first child because it cuts the fuss down dramatically. I am also looking into getting a pillow protector and another mattress to go with it.”
