Chopsy Baby is reviewing… Baby Annabell Care for Me doll
Children’s baby dolls are very accomplished these days. Not only do they cry, drink milk, wee and perform other bodily functions, they can drive beach buggies, ride bikes, ride horses and sail boats.
A little bit of interaction with a doll is sometimes all a young child wants, rather than to go on an adventure weekend with my first baby abseiling kit.
For this purpose then, the Baby Annabell Care for Me doll is perfect. Children will be able to love, nurture and care for the doll without passing into the levels of complete unrealism.
The toy can be washed in shallow water and will shiver and make noises when she is towel dried.
Baby Annabell comes with dress, hat, socks, nappy, towel, dummy and two baby care tubs.
You can tickle/rub her tummy and she will laugh, coo and vibrate. There are certain points on the doll’s body that trigger this kind of response. These are best rubbed by a child not an adult sized hand as it will make you feel a bit grubby.
When Annabell is put in a very shallow bath of water, the doll responds impressively with shivers and complaints. The same happens when she is towel dried. It is a good idea to make sure your child knows that Annabell only needs a little wash rather than a full submersion or drowning.
The doll is touted as having soft skin. On first inspection, this could be debatable, but what it means is that the skin is rubbery rather than cold hard plastic. When in the water, Annabell’s skin does actually feel warm.
Five-year-old Cassie tested out the doll for Chopsy Baby.
Cassie says: “I love being able to give her a bath and she shakes. I give my other dollies baths but they don’t talk or move. I like dressing her up and putting her to bed. When I tickle her she laughs at me. I have called her Baby and I am her mum.”
Cassie’s mother Helen says: “I never expected Cassie to take to dolls so much. I never pushed her into this but all her other little friends love them. Cassie takes the doll everywhere with her. I’m sure that some of the people on the bus think we are lugging a real baby around by the arm.”
The Baby Annabell Care for Me doll RRP is £44.99 – though you can shop around online for competitive prices. It is a lot of money for a doll so is it worth it? Yes. The doll is well made and robust. It would take a serious amount of harm to cause it damage. It is responsive and interactive, quite realistic and something never before written on Chopsy Baby – a bit cute!
Best of all…
She responds very realistically.
Could improve…
Nothing. Baby Annabell is a lovely doll.
