Chopsy Baby is Reviewing … Barbie The Princess and the Popstar DVD
Now this is an incredibly unChopsy thing to admit, but I really enjoyed Barbie The Princess and the Popstar. The new DVD out this week, is the first Barbie musical for five years.
The Princess and the Popstar, is a play on words relating to the plot which is loosely based on themes in the Prince and the Pauper.
Barbie – AKA Tori – dreams of a song and dance career rather than her royal duties. When her favourite pop star Keira, visits the kingdom to perform, they swap places.
As well as Barbie embarking on a somewhat altruistic journey, there are dastardly plots to foil and an irritating aunt to thwart.
The script and characterisations are strong enough to draw everyone into the story without noticing the pink fluffiness. In fact, somehow Barbie in this film and the first A Mermaid Tale, does rock an edge about her. She manages to continue that appeal to young children, but also makes for a stronger female role model, putting her head and shoulders above all other animated dolls Bratz on the market.

The DVD is available at all major retailers from 03 September 2012.
