Chopsy Baby is Reviewing… The new Steam n’ Speed Remote Control Thomas from Fisher-Price
Chopsy Baby Says: “Brilliant. Well made and so much fun.”
Rating: 10/10
What is it?
The new Steam n’ Speed Remote Control Thomas from Fisher-Price, is one pretty cool toy.
Thomas is a chunky, well made engine, which comes with a toddler safe remote control. Both are sturdy in clumsy hands, and there are no aerials poking out of the R/C for youngsters to chew.
Thomas moves forwards and backwards, whistles, chugs and churns out some of his usual happy busy Sodor propaganda.
Of course, this toy is special, with its unique selling point being the fact that he puffs out real but cold to the touch steam.
With an eye dropper, you simply add a small amount of water, which goes through a magical process and comes out as steam. The toy never gets hot, so the inner workings probably contain some kind of ultrasonic humidifier device.
Users are warned only to use distilled water, as tap water can stop the toy working. We used normal tap water during tests, as it is unlikely anyone will ever bother going to the trouble of getting distilled water. But be warned, this long term use will probably stop the toy working.
The dropper stores easily in a dedicated compartment under the train meaning you won’t be endlessly hunting for it.
There is also a spare wick, which is probably to replace something inside that gets ruined by using tap water.
The toy, as with all Thomas toys in general, is very well made and has proven to be fun for all the family.

Three year old Cory tested this out for Chopsy Baby, with his five year old sister Gemma.
Corey said: “I like it Thomas. It talks to me. I can make it move.”
Gemma said: “This is really cool. It’s clever because steam comes out. We play with it a lot. But we have to be careful with steps. My cousin (two years of age) played with it too and can get it to go round the room.”
Best for ages:
It’s suitable for children aged three years upwards, but a two year old will enjoy playing with this with supervision.
How much time can you get out of it?
Our child testers played with it around twenty minutes at a time.
Best of all…
Real steam.
Could improve…
Nothing, but of course, it would be better to use tap water.
Basically…
A great toy. Really impressive.
