Dangerous Skate Park Needs Crowdfund Cash for Redevelopment

A dangerous and unusable skatepark in Bristol, is close to a redevelopment, but still needs to raise money through crowdfunding to secure the project.

The Bristol Skatepark Collective, is aiming to improve the facilities at Victoria Park, which is currently unusable due to the poor quality of its Tarmac surface and inappropriately spaced equipment.

The original park opened in 2011 and was supposed to be part of a two-stage project. Although stage one was carried out, the second part of the project was never completed.

“We believe free outdoor wheel park facilities in Bristol are not good enough and do not reflect the needs and demands of children, young people, and the local wheel park community,” founder of Bristol Skatepark Collective Daniel Higginson said.

“Neither beginners nor advanced users can fully engage or use the space suitably due to poor design, lack of equipment, uneven flooring, and general wear and tear.

“This project would see the current Victoria Park facility, which is virtually un-skatable, upgraded to a modern wheeled park, designed for all ages and disciplines.”

The Collective is campaigning to raise £20,000 in crowdfunding to reach the £150,000 they need. Currently, a grant of £50,000 has been awarded by Enovert Community Trust and a further £60,000 will come from Bristol City Council.
