Easy Magic Tricks from Vicks to Help Cheer Up Poorly Children
Bored youngsters languishing on sofas with coughs or colds, may find these delightful magic tricks performed by a parent infinitely more rewarding than soaking up hours of daytime TV.
According to findings from Vicks, 76 per cent of parents use TV and tablets to occupy children when they are poorly at home.
But this could be one of the worst things to do, with the flashing lights from TV programmes preventing production of melatonin, making it harder to rest or sleep.
Family Family Psychologist, Corinne Sweet, has created some tips to help your child recuperate and magician Katherine Mills has worked with Vicks to create Vicks Tricks, easy magic tricks for parents to perform to poorly children.
Take your child seriously when they say they feel ill and check for any more serious symptoms
Act early – by getting them to rest, sleep, or see a doctor if necessary
Relieve symptoms in an age-appropriate way – check you are medicating to the right level and age
Enable them to endure – relieve symptoms where possible, keep them warm, snug and amused
Reassure them – even if you feel anxious or tired, remind them they will be well again soon
Care for them – some TLC, kindness and care goes a long way and boosts immunity
Expect them to be fussy or bad-tempered and keep calm as a parent, despite provocation
Boost their recovery with laughter, cuddles, nice stories, gentle play – but keep them warm and not too stimulated meanwhile, don’t force food on them until they want to eat – they will make up for it once they feel better
Congratulate them on getting well – give them something to look forward to, treat like a family trip to the cinema or ice skating, is a great goal to work towards, when they are better
